Heat Treating

Ceramic Diffusion

Ceramic diffusion is the latest innovation from Phoenix Heat Treating! Our proprietary process diffuses ceramic element into the surface of the base material generating a uniform case with a surface hardness of 1600-2400 HK (base alloy dependent). The process is performed under a controlled atmosphere and there is no quench resulting is distortion control. Parts that see tremendous abrasive wear or chemical wear could see a 2 – 3X life extension.
Properties:
Z

High surface hardness 1600-2400 HK (base alloy dependent)

Z

Applicable to various base alloys. From 1018 to Inconel 718

Z

Masking/ selective diffusion possible.

Z

Case depth of approx. 0.003” (base alloy dependent)

Z

Low coefficient of friction

Z

Extreme wear resistance compared to nitriding or carburizing

Z

Not a coating so spalling is not a concern

Z

Self-lubricating even at higher temperatures

Stress Relieving

Stress relieving is the process of removing residual stress within a part. Machining, cutting, forming and other manufacturing operations will cause stress to build up within the material. This stress can have a big impact to later heat treat applications. It is not uncommon for built up stress to cause unwanted distortion or cracking if not properly relieved. The benefits of stress relieving machined parts are enormous. Additionally this process does not change the material’s structure or hardness. Stress relieving is typically performed after rough machining but before finishing operations such as polish or grind.
